Spring is stirring, buds are swelling, and soil is warming. This week we celebrate the joys of healthy, living soil in conversation with Omar Al Shafie, co-founder of Northern California-based Teregen Ag, a purpose-driven, innovative, soil and plant nutrient producer and researcher dedicated to furthering our collective transition toward sustainable, regenerative farming.
Having witnessed firsthand how healthy soil can transform not just crops, but entire ecosystems and communities, and in understanding the challenges of shifting away from conventional methods, Teregen Ag focuses on researching and producing micronized nutrient-dense, chemical free amendments that help rebuild soil biology and support plant health.
Their goal is to help transform our entire food system, one farm and
garden at a time. Omar Al Shafie joins me here this week in the Northstate Public Radio studios to share more.

Thinking out loud this week...
Hey, it's Jennifer—
Right now it is extremely challenging to reconcile our daily lives with the stare of the world, the war the US entered this past few weeks, the climate chaos, the loss of environmental protections with the view out my window. The sun is shining, the wrens and bluebirds are looking for nests, the mason bees and SO MANY BUMBLE BEE queens are foraging for nectar and pollen, pollinating our wildflowers, our weeds, our orchard, and the days are lengthening, the sap rising, the soil warming.
But don’t mistake these observations for escapism or complacency. This view, my beloved untidy garden and glorious native landscape beyond that are ballast in these destabilized times for me, and yours are in your life too. They are the seedbanks of hope and fierce reminders of all that we do hope for, and what is worth fighting for unceasingly. These plant and land gifts are shared in common, and they are, and this plant-loving landscape stewarding community is the strength we need to navigate toward the future we want for our world.
Some public growing announcements for you this week – first up – GREAT NEWS!
